Arctic monitoring Assessment program

Arctic monitoring Assessment program

Start/end date:
Sunday, January 1, 2017 - 08:00 to Sunday, December 31, 2017 - 18:00
Event type:

The aim of the present project is to continue the monitoring of contaminants in the atmosphere in Greenland to detect temporal and geographical changes and to understand the mechanisms behind them especially those related to climate and to changes in sources and source regions. Attention towards the effect of international pollutant regulations has high priority, as well as the identification of emerging pollutant issues in the Arctic.

The project will add to the fundamental knowledge of the processes behind temporal trends of pollutants in the Arctic and feed into international trend studies in the AMAP network and beyond. As the project focuses on long range transport of contaminants in the atmosphere, it will also provide an important contribution to international convention work such as the Stockholm Convention and the Convention on Long-range Trans-boundary Air Pollution. Thus the main objective is to understand the trends seen so far and how the mechanistically are connected to sources, the physical and chemical conditions in order to predict future trends and identify possible treads e.g. tipping points with possibly global impact and consequences.
